Bartlett Dairy Development Approved

On June 14th, Bartlett Dairy, Incorporated received final approval from the City of New York to develop a 6 acre parcel of city owned property near the intersection of Nassau Expressway and Rockaway Blvd. Bartlett, a minority-owned, family-run local business, will develop a 54,000 square foot dairy distribution center on the site and gain ownership of the land. The new facility is expected to add 165 permanent jobs to the neighborhood with average salaries of $70,000.

GatewayJFK holds Spring Clean-up & launches area beautification program

On Wed. March 20th and Thursday March 21st GatewayJFK, held our first Spring Cleanup to beautify the commercial and residential corridor along Rockaway Blvd. near JFK Airport. Ten workers swept every street, sidewalk and median in the 215-acre district to remove 238 bags which is estimated to be 4.6 tons of garbage from the neighborhood.

In January, GatewayJFK began working with the engineering firm Philip Habib & Associates (PHA) on Phase 1 in the development of a comprehensive transportation plan. Now PHA is conducting a survey to gather input from people who live, work, and own a business in the area. There are three separate surveys for people who manage a business, work, and/or live in Springfield Gardens/GatewayJFK area.

City Council Passes Sign Law: No Fines for 2 Years

In January the NY City Council passed a law to update the code for signs on businesses that will help keep the cost of signage violations under control. The law, also known as the Awnings Act will:

Create a 2-year moratorium on new fines for signage

Rescind all outstanding signage fines

Give businesses that have already paid fines a discount on future signage permits

Reduce the fees for signs and awning permits going forward

Help us fight graffiti: File a Police Report

Dear Property Owners and Businesses in GatewayJFK,

As you may have noticed there has been a recent increase in graffiti in the BID. It appears that the vandals have been striking overnight and on weekends.

I’ve reached out to Ofc. Jessica Kohler of the NYPD, who is the NCO for our sector in the new Community Policing effort in the area. I have asked her to put extra officers on patrol in the area.

On September 1st GatewayJFK relocated to a new office on 148th Avenue, across the street from the DMV. The new office is nearly twice the size and will allow visitors to park in a public lot across the street. With the new office space GatewayJFK is now ready to expand as we provide more services to the community and grow our programming.
